Just doing a forum software update while panicking about PHP, no big deal (heck yeah, managed hosting!).

Everything is fine. Things should work as they should. Let me know if it doesn't.

I watched it the first time it aired! I just don't remember if I actually liked it or not. All I remember was the second season being much tighter than the first, with the finale of season one winning me over with that cliffhanger. But, also, I had a bottle of red wine while I binged the entire first season. I wanted to formulate an opinion unaffected by the Beer Goggle effect.

Additionally, been watching it with another person who is going through the entire GitS franchise for the first time, wanting to compare their first impressions with mine.

And what are my impressions the second time around?

• the CGI is rough. With standards set by previous installments and time, it just looks dated and everyone is off-model (does help that The Major has a moeblob waifu updated design that I really don't like, don't at me). Daresay, generic.

• it took to ep. 6 to get interesting

• music (as in, besides the opening and ending songs) are serviceable. so far they really havent had a chance to shine

• battle and fight scenes are still great

• the one Black character getting the Clown treatment, hate it

• someone on MAL said it was for the "Netflix audience" and now I can't unsee it; it kinda fits...

Pleased to announce some ways to chat within Our Favorite Void!

Now, we all know Discord is on the ropes and I'm personally not a fan of Matrix (among other things), so it's been a little tough trying to find something.

And this is the part where I go on about the XMPP protocol (aka Jabber), once again.  But I think I've done that twice now, so I'll just link you to the official public channel below.

If you still want that Discord mouthfeel, Fluxer is that! More than one channel and the option to VC once you're verified. It's still in beta, though. I may make a Discord if there's an actual popular demand for it.

Public Channel (XMPP, Jabber)

• Code:

  ofv-public-channel@conference.movim.eu
• You can also connect via direct link here: https://mov.im/login/GzgvgrMV

• If you're having trouble connecting, try searching public channels for "Our Favorite Void"

• for more info: https://xmpp-guide.codeberg.page/

Discord will come and go. Any minute now... annnnny minute now.

Veronica Explains said it best:

Here, Veronica discusses how to set up your own AIM server. And also, once more reminding that we should probably look into alternative means of reconnecting with each other.

I don't have the grumption to setup my own AIM server (yet), but I've mostly returned to using Jabber/XMPP. Because the protocol has yet to let me down, but Discord will (and honestly, already has).

And you can get your own here: https://tamanotchi.world/

I'm a big fan of Yuri/WLW/Lesbian Anime, and I'll even tolerate some slop for it. But it'd be nice if one need not tolerate slop, so! I figure I'll post about it.

The Magical Revolution The Reincarnated Princess and The Genius Young Lady

• A story about a princess born to a kingdom in which the mark of nobility is the ability to use magic... without the ability to use magic. Objectively a very gay story about how the princess navigates a world that spurns her for her inability to use magic, instead deciding to become an eccentric researcher to find ways to put magic in the hands of ordinary people. Explicitly she's not interested in men, only has interest in women, which, at least to begin with is no problem, as there are no political marriages to be had for a useless princess. To help ensure this never comes up, she renounces her eligibility for the crown. Features a bunch of eccentric ladies. Is TECHNICALLY an isekai, but this is not really actually explored, except insofar as "our protagonist has memories of a world where magic was just a fantasy, so of course she'd be in love with a world where it's real."

• What if the princess of (not-Hungary) and the last witch in existence teamed up to fight NAZIS and win Not-World-War-2? Aggressively gay, though never acknowledged in words. The narrative, on the other hand... Acknowledges it quite prominently. CW: It's a story about war, and is actually somewhat brutal in that regard at times.

• Hideo Kojima was tweeting about this one! "What if we took young women detached from the system in Modern Japan, and raised them to be elite assassins and spies dedicated to keeping the social order from the shadows!" A story about two very broken young women, one of whom has made progress towards "becoming a real person again," and another who... needs that help. Not explicitly gay, but... also very, very gay. Contains some criticism of the Japanese myth of "cleaner, nicer, neater society, because we're just built different! We have no crime or disorder!" (Actually enforced by special-forces orphans.) Has some blood and violence and plenty of guns. Is actually a very silly fluffy story.
